Isn't it intriguing, the thought of the sea while you're on the plane...
The seemingly endless depths of the ocean beneath, far far away... that was a thought I had while I was flying across the channel.
The mystery of the ocean. While flying high up in the air, one can see land, hills, green, sand etc. but one can never see what lies beneath the surface of the sea. Is there coral? rocks? seaweed? fish? sharks? Hmm, mysterious.
Another thought while on the plane: The only time I sensed being up quite high in the big blue sky... was when I thought the sea was quite a clear picture, but as boats passed, they were all fuzzy and far below. Hmm, a plane is not a good place to be if one is afraid of heights.
Arrived at the airport, on the island. But not quite on the island, the airport is an "in-between" place. You're on the island, Ireland, yet you're not yet in Ireland until you've shown your passport and have left the airport. Ever thought about that? Pretty strange I reckon.
Anyway, so we got through through customs and arrived in Cork, or Ork, as it says on my cabin luggage.
After dropping off our luggage, we walked around Cork for a bit, what a small and cute little city it is! We saw this really old bookshop with books stacked to the roof, there were literally books everywhere! on the shelves, on the staircase, in the windows, next to the shelves, on top of each other, in front of each other... on the floor... I could go on.
As we walked through the city and had some lunch, we noticed that the fashion sense was well, not non-existent, but quite poor: tracksuits, mismatched colours etc. + We had not been sitting there for more than 10 minutes and we'd already seen four pregnant young women, not much older than myself. And the obesity level, ouch. What a different lifestyle eh.
So, after having some lunch we walked for a bit and went to "the English market", lots of meat (the smell... disgusting, anyhoo...) and a wineshop, the boy working there was well- extremely pretty. He had the dark hair and grey/blue eyes, you know... What an Irishman should look like, unless of course the Irishman is a leprechaun, but that's a different story.
He'd apparently been to Amsterdam and told us how the Irish pubs in Amsterdam were not Irish at all, "stick some shamrocks on the wall and give the pub an Irish name and serve Guinness, then call yourself an Irish pub" haha. Yes. So true. I was in awe, still am a bit... those eyes! Wow. I might have to go back haha, or find more of those pretty eyes.
Continuing our walk, I remember what Robert Pfeiffer said about the Polish. The town is full of Polish people, and jobless Irish people, what went wrong here? Irish with no money, homeless or barely getting by and then the Polish doing all the work.. Weird.
Even still, the people here are incredibly friendly and seem to show more emotion than most English. On that note, we went to a session with Peter O'Connor last night, and had a whole conversation with this English lady who'd moved to Ireland on the stuck-up Englishman and the Irishman who dares to show his emotions, of course- this does not count for all of them, but hey... there's a bit of a cultural difference there.
So, we met up with Peter and Els, which is where we're staying now. In the eco-lodge. It's a "green" apartment, loving it. The water that runs from the tap has a brown glow to it as it's rainwater, the bed is mighty comfortable and the morning view of the garden is lovely. The weather is great too! Some clouds blocking out the sun at the moment, but it's quite warm and the sun is lovely. Hooray for Ireland!
Last night we had a little session going, where I was outplayed by two lads, about 15 years old. grrrr I need to practice my fiddle playing more often! Great music, not too fast and amazing musicians.
Well, today I'm just going to relax and read. Finish my book :)

Sun's just come out again yay!
